This might surprise you about connection

Filed in The Reverie  /  February 11, 2025 /

There’s a certain freedom that comes when I ride my horse Ruger without a bridle. There’s this deep sense of trust between us. The kind of trust that doesn’t rely on physical restraint but instead on unspoken communication, a shared presence, and a willingness to move together as one.

Lately, riding with a bridle has been challenging for us. I know there’s something I’m not seeing—some blind spot that needs patience and attention. But when we ride unbridled, none of that tension exists. It’s not perfect, but it’s honest. It’s connection in its purest form. He respects my subtle requests, my body mirrors his rhythm, and together we find this quiet understanding that frees me from all the other constraints I need to answer to in daily life.

Yes, there’s some hard work and growth to do around riding together like this in a bridle. But I’m all in on recognizing that connection—real connection—is never about force or control. It thrives in trust, awareness, and the space to be fully seen and fully felt. Whether in relationships, business, or even our relationship with ourselves, the deepest bonds are formed when we show up authentically, without unnecessary constraints.

For February, as we explore connection in all its forms, I invite you to reflect on what it means to be unbridled in your own life. Where are you still trying to hold control that could be released? Where do you feel that same flow of connection when you stop overthinking and simply be with what is? Whether it’s with a client, a creative project, or a personal relationship, where you could find a bit more ease and freedom in true connection? What could that lead to?

Ruger reminds me that connection must be allowed to breathe and grow. It’s about slowing down, trusting, and moving forward together. And in that space, we find freedom. We find what it really means to be unbridled.
